Queen City October Music Festival
The City of Plainfield, NJ is fortunate to have many gifted artists and art support groups in our town, but there are limited spaces for exhibition and performance for these artists. On February 27th, 2017 an open meeting was scheduled by Judy Mae Waters, the owner of the French School of Music, at the DuCret School of Art to generate interest in development of a performing arts center facility and umbrella group to oversee it. Over one hundred people attended including Plainfield’s mayor and various city officials to hear the former director of the Arts Council of Princeton present how the Princeton group was formed and its current activities.
After the meeting was over, about fifteen people, who had attended, signed on to develop this concept further. Over several months in the spring of 2017 this core group generated a mission statement that expanded on the concept of only having a sole goal of developing a facility, which could take years to move ahead. They formulated a mission statement with goals to (1) identify Plainfield artists and arts organizations, (2) promote collaboration amongst the artists and groups, (3) produce a monthly Arts Calendar Of Events, (4) promote an appreciation of cultural and artistic diversity, (4) celebrate the art with festivals, (5) raise funds for marketing and publicity and to move along the feasibility of a facility that would serve all art disciplines.
Our taskforce represents a wide variety of talent and cultural diversity including jazz, classical, rock, rhythm and blues, painters, teachers, board members of schools and musical groups, architects, photographers, and promotional talent agents. On or about June of 2017, this group decided to celebrate musical arts with a festival in October that would represent all facets of our community.
Each weekend would have a special theme including classical, Hispanic heritage, jazz / hip-hop / rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. Media Contact: Arne Aakre 908-872-5012
