A diverse cast of women will perform Obie Award Winning Playwright Eve Ensler’s

celebrated play, The Vagina Monologues on

Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10, 2018

at the duCret School of Art.

Located at 1030 Central Avenue, the historic art school will welcome Filmmaker and Producer Onxy Keesha to her hometown to direct this thought provoking play celebrating the sexuality and strength of women, ages 19 to 73.

Performances will be held March 9th at 8 p.m. and March 10th , at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at New Jersey’s oldest art school and promise to shed light on the joy and pain faced by women.

Onyx Keesha, who founded M. PoWer Arts, said she is excited to revive The Vagina Monologues on the heels of the national Times Up campaign to raise awareness about sexual harassment. The Plainfield native believes the narratives, originally staged in 1994 by Ensler, are more relevant today than ever.

Using humor and drama, The Vagina Monologues provides audiences with experiences and feelings not often shared in public, to shed light on violence against women and girls, according to Onyx Keesha. It also celebrates courageous women who dare to break the cycle of shame and silence associated with their own stories of violence and abuse. “It feels great to bring community theater and performance arts back to Plainfield and we could not have chosen a better venue then duCret because of its history and location,” said Onyx Keesha. “The people need a positive, creative outlet that also enlightens and uplifts... that’s what we do at M. PoWer.”

Over the years, M. PoWer Arts has produced A Raisin in the Sun, Annie, Aida, and The Wiz. Onxy Keesha will join fellow Director Danielle Tucker, and Producers Lesli Hall Price and Michele Tucker to mount The Vagina Monologues.

“We’re really excited to have this special performance take place on our stage,” said Timothy Priano, Board Chairman of the duCret School of Art. “This performance space is extremely important and “we’re thrilled to have such an accomplished team to help breathe life into our stage”
