Second Street Youth Center Holds Alumni Event May 19

Did you, or a family member attend a child care program such as pre-school, after-school or summer camp at the Second Street Youth Center (SSYC) before 2005? Did you attend the day care 100 or head start program at SSYC? Did you participate in a boxing, athletic or teen leadership program at SSYC? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you are invited to an outdoor barbecue at SSYC 935 South Second Street on Saturday, May 19 at 12 Noon.

As SSYC celebrates its 50th, a number of activities are being considered; an evening gala, auction, golf outing and other festivities. SSYC will also participate in a 5K Generosity Run/Walk on Sunday June 10 in the morning. This year of celebrations kicks off with the alumni reception where those served by SSYC in their youth will have the chance to renew acquaintances, enjoy lunch outdoors and help provide ideas for future anniversary events. There is no charge to attend but a reply by May 18th is required. Please spread the word to any others who are SSYC alumni.

At the end of 2018, SSYC plans to relocate to 200 Plainfield Avenue (corner of South Second Street). Our Director, Leah Dade will inform the community in the near future about plans for the new building. You may register for the alumni reception via our website (, our Facebook page or by contacting Program Assistant Jeff Scheckner 908-561-0003 ext.138 or Martin Cox, who is founder of the Plainfield High School Alumni Association is chairing this event.
