AUDITION for IN THE NEXT ROOM at duCret Theater December 2nd, 4th and 5th

Casting In the Next Room, the play by Sarah Ruhl. Synopsis: In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.

Open auditions will be held Sun., Dec. 2 (4-6 p.m.), Tues., Dec. 4 (7-8 p.m.), and Wed., Dec. 5 (7-8 p.m.) at duCret School of Art, 1030 Central Ave., Plainfield, NJ. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. If you cannot make auditions or have any questions, email director Anna Paone at

Please note that the roles of Catherine Givings, Sabrina Daldry, and Leo Irving require simulated orgasm, and that the roles of Sabrina Daldry and Annie require a same-sex kiss.

In addition, we are seeking a volunteer stage manager.

The show runs Feb. 14-17, 2019, with a special Valentine's Day reception.
