Designer Show House April 25th -May 19th

April 23, 2019

PLAINFIELD - When it comes to home renovation, Dan Reichard of ER Development in Berkeley Heights isn't afraid of a big project — one that costs some money, takes a lot of time and work, and may include some unexpected surprises along the way.

And that's exactly what he got with the 950 Hillside Ave. home in Plainfield that will go up for sale in conjunction with Thursday's start of the designer showcase restoration tour of the 1870 three story, 7,000-square-foot historic mansion for The Valerie Fund which supports comprehensive health care for children battling cancer and blood disorders.

"This is ultimate staging so I have to take advantage of it," said Reichard, adding if that happens, everyone — the investors, the designers who received business from the showcase, The Valerie Fund and the children the organization helps — all win.

"The house is truly special," said Reichard, about the home with eight bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The tour, called Grace's House, is named after Reichard's 10-year-old granddaughter Grace Eline who last year successfully battled a germ cell brain tumor at The Valerie Fund Children's Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Grace underwent four rounds of chemotherapy, 24 rounds of proton radiation treatment and also benefited from yoga, massage with stress-reducing aromatherapy and art therapy.

Grace's art work will be featured in some of the 20 rooms featured in the house tour.

"She inspired me to do it," Reichard said.

"But I knew we had something special from the historical standpoint and just the magnificence of the house," said Reichard, a custom builder for about 20 years.  rest of the story on My Central NJ
